That’s why checking whether the gate is locked isn’t always enough.
🔎 Take a Fresh Look at the Perimeter
At the beginning and end of the workday, take a moment to look at the site as it exists today—not as you remember it yesterday.
Ask:
- Did today’s work create a new opening, gap, obstruction, or unintended access point?
- Were materials or equipment placed where they now affect visibility around the perimeter?
- Did crews temporarily move fencing, barriers, lighting, or signage?
- Has weather, heavy equipment, or ground movement affected any part of the boundary?
- Did the day’s work change how employees, visitors, or vehicles enter and leave the site?

Construction security is unusual because the environment you’re trying to secure is also the environment you’re actively changing.
A security plan that made sense Monday may need an adjustment by Friday.
Making a quick perimeter review part of the daily routine can help identify small changes before they become overlooked safety or security concerns.
