The Parking Lot Conversation That Goes Too Long.

Church fellowship doesn’t always end when the service does. Members may stay in the parking lot talking, laughing, catching up, or waiting on family long after most people have left.

But as the crowd gets smaller, the environment changes.

A nearly empty parking lot can mean fewer witnesses, reduced lighting coverage in some areas, fewer people available to help, and less activity to discourage unwanted behavior.

Consider these simple safety practices:

·        Encourage members to remain aware of their surroundings while visiting outside.

·        Avoid leaving one or two people alone in the parking lot after everyone else has gone.

·        Make sure someone is still monitoring the property during the transition from a full church to an almost-empty one.

·        Keep exterior lighting working and parking areas clearly visible.

·        Encourage members to walk out together when possible, especially after evening services or meetings.

·        Make sure the final person leaving is not doing so without anyone else knowing.

The conversation may feel casual, but the safety environment has already changed.

Church safety should continue until the last person has safely left the property.

Fellowship can continue—just don’t let awareness leave first.
